1. Johann Ericsson a Swedish-American inventor developed multiple maritime inventions which are listed in various articles online. It is his funeral that was discussed in the Oregon Historical newspaper.
2. Captain Ericsson was a shipmaster who sailed the Redwood Coast along California and Oregon of the United States of America.

He commanded the Greenwood a wooden steam schooner.
1889
March 13, 1889 in an article in The Daily Morning Astorian it stated that: Captain Ericsson’s Funeral. New York, March 11. The funeral of the late John Ericsson, the inventor, took place today from Trinity church. There was a long procession. The church was crowded, and the sidewalks were packed with people. The navy was represented by officers from all the government vessels here, and others from the navy yard.
