The herbs were lined up on the counter, and she held the ladle of which she would drop the herbs into the boiling water in the large pot on the stove. We had cauldrons, but mama preferred to mix the herbs first in the pot. This was for a woman who had recently suffered a heartbreak, and needed healing too. Dropping in a cup or two of a finely ground herb the water immediately steamed rose scent. I loved watching her chant and move her hand above the water as she dropped in each herb.
