In an article in The Daily Morning Astorian of Astoria, Oregon on on March 12, 1890 it states that: Tacoma, March 11. Deputy col Collector Hayden has seized the navigation instruments taken from the British ship Craigend, and will possibly arrest the constables for smuggling. Captain Hamilton, acting under instructions from the owners of the vessel, has placed the whole matter in the hands of Balfour, Guthrie fc Co., whose representative has taken measures for a prompt investigation of the affair. The agent has telegraphed the British consul, J. B. Alexander, at Port Townsend, to come here and be here on Wednesday, and had also asked the American collector of the port, Colonel Bradshaw, to come.
