In 1890, he commanded the Adele a German Schooner

18 Dec 1890 in an article in The Daily Morning Astorian of Astoria, Oregon it stated that: A Sealer in Trouble Special to The Astorian. Victoria, B. C, Dec. 17 The German schooner Adele, which returned yesterday from a cruise to Bering sea and a raid upon the Island of St. Paul, was seized today by the collector of customs on two charges, first for failing to enter the custom house, the fine for which is 400 with S100 costs. The second charge is false clearance. “When Captain Hansen left Victoria last September he cleared for Yokohoma, but instead touched at St Paul Island. The penalty for this is also S400.
