08 Nov 1902 in an article in the Morning Oregonian of Portland, Oregon it stated that: STEAMER’S MAST KNOCKED OFF Collision the Result of Orders Misunderstood Boat Badly Damaged in the Crash, hit Bridge Not Injured. An engineer on the Alliance misunderstood a signal and as a result the steamer collided with the steel bridge yesterday afternoon. The bridge was not damaged, but the Alliance was, and before she goes to sea again she will need a new foremast and a lot of repairs to her rigging and pilot-house.
