31 Mar 1919 in an article in The Oregon Daily Journal of Portland, Oregon it states that: Schooner Strikes a Rock San Francisco After striking a rock about 70 miles north of this port, the steam schooner Grays Harbor, Captain Hellesto, returned to port Sunday. The water poured into the hold so rapidly that the captain decided to put back. After repairs the vessel will again sail for Grays Harbor.
From 1930 – 1933 he commanded the Santiam a wooden steam schooner owned by the Sudden & Christenson line. Sister ship to the Trinidad. On 14 Oct 1936 she caught fire and burned at a mill berth in the docks at Aberdeen, WA.
