Penelope’s Diary 02.02.2025 Embedded story

This free write explored the idea of an embedded story within a story. A style Raven uses often. All of these (8 short stories) can be developed into larger stories.

First overall story is Penelope who is a nine – year-old girl ghost who haunts an American farmstead in the midwest. She lived in the 1850’s.

Diary is named Abby within which she writes her daily experiences that pertain to the supernatural.

Mellissa is a current inhabitant of the farmhouse Penelope haunts.

Melissa’s family are any number of characters can be introduced and written of here.

Doctor is a temporary character who is attending to the sick Mellissa and other members of the living world who reside or work on the farm.

The young man has his afterlife and death experience to explore.

Snake is the answer to the conundrum faced by the young man’s accident. The rattler startled his horses, who reared and caused the overloaded wagon to flip over. He fell between and was thus trampled and run over by the wagon wheels. Another story can be developed about the snake.

The ballerina legs signifies the pure joy of dance and this spirit’s continuation of this activity in her afterlife. The music expands on the abilities of the supernatural to be sensed by more than one medium.

Return the audience to the story of Melissa and Penelope where she says good night to Abby the Diary.

This post took about ten minutes to write with multiple distractions.
